Zagadki pogranicza: zespół wieżowy w Stołpiu

Osiem kilometrów przed Chełmem od strony Lublina, przy szosie krajowej nr 12, widoczna jest kamienna wieża usytuowana w narożniku przylegającej do niej wyniosłości. Na ostatniej kondygnacji tej budowli widoczne są pozostałości kaplicy, z ceglaną obudową, poniżej - otwór wejściowy. Drugie wejście do wieży znajduje się na poziomie terenu przyległej doń wyniosłości. Choć obiekt jest dobrze widoczny od strony szosy (ryc. 1), niewiele przejeżdżających tamtędy zatrzymuje się, aby ją dokładniej obejrzeć. Turysta nie znajdzie tu również informacji na temat chronologii i funkcji tego monumentu.

The book presents the most interesting archaeological discoveries, hypotheses and interpretations concerning the archaeology of the Polish lands between the sixth and middle of the thirteenth century. These concern the stages of the settlement of these areas by Slavic peoples, the transition from tribal organization to early state ones, the rise of towns, rural centres and ecclesiastical organization. The work also provides an overview of the archaeology of Polish lands in the Early Medieval period, illustrated by discoveries, the interpretation of which sometimes has divided the scientific milieu.
